Organist Thomas Wilson presents a captivating recital showcasing the extraordinary range of the pipe organ, from stately ceremonial music to moments of reflection and dazzling virtuosity.
The programme opens with Walton’s stirring Crown Imperial, in Herbert Murrill’s celebrated organ arrangement, before turning to Bach’s expressive Schübler Chorales and a special highlight: Samuel Barber’s much-loved Adagio for Strings, transformed into a moving solo organ performance. The grandeur of Mendelssohn’s Third Organ Sonata and the atmospheric beauty of Widor’s Symphonie gothique lead towards a spectacular finale with Vierne’s exhilarating Carillon de Westminster.
A journey through some of the most evocative music written for, or transformed by, the organ, this recital celebrates the instrument’s power to move, inspire and astonish.
